- WWNC had the call sign of the flagship stations of two of the major networks at its beginning. The station's original calls were "ABC" which stood for the Asheville Battery Company. When CBS took the call sign "WABC" for its flagship station in New York (why they didn't use WCBS from the outset is a mystery to me), then WWNC had to choose a different call, hence "Wonderful Western North Carolina" came into being. Of course, CBS gave up the WABC calls when the Red and Blue Networks of NBC were separated and ABC came into being.
- WKJV in Asheville has been known in previous iterations as WTOO, WRAQ and WKKE. It was most famous for its first set of calls, however: WLOS! And yes, the old WLOS-TV batwing antenna is still on one of the WKJV towers today.
- WBRM in Marion stands for "Wonderful Blue Ridge Mountains"
